Heating a Glazed Ham
Heating a Glazed Ham
The short answer is that you generally should not heat a fully cooked glazed ham. I take mine out of the refrigerator about an hour before serving and do not heat it. Buy it for the taste and enjoy it for the simplicity of serving!
There are two potential problems with heating a glazed ham:
- It may dry out the ham unless it is a ham with natural juices or a ham with water added. See ham 101 page for more details if you are not sure.
- It will melt the glaze. And you paid extra for the convenience of that beautiful crunchy glaze coating.
If you must heat your glazed ham (knowing that it will be dryer and that the glaze will melt), bake at 275 for about 10 minutes per pound.
If you do choose to heat a glazed ham from pams-hams or any other specialty shop, you may want to freshen up the glaze when it's done since the oven will melt much of it.
