Classic Ham Glaze Recipe

Classic Ham Glaze Recipe

When you buy a ham from pams-hams, you don't need to glaze it. It comes with that sweet crunchy glaze which is part of the reason it so easy to serve.

But if you're a creative cook and want to try your hand at creating a brown sugar glazed ham, here is a glazed ham recipe that is sure to please.

Classic ham glaze recipe
Ingredients: 1 cup sugar or brown sugar (I like the more crystallized ones),
¼ t. cinnamon,
¼ t. paprika,
¼ t. cloves,
pinch nutmeg

For Glazing a Ham: Mix ingredients. Lay wax paper on a flat surface and pour some of the mixture onto the wax paper. Roll the outer surface of the ham in the mixture until it is well coated. Put the sugar mixture coated ham on a plate or lazy susan so you can spin it. Use a butane torch to caramelize the sugar. Wave it quickly so the sugar bubbles but does not burn. May take about 10 minutes if you are being slow and careful. It really is quite theatrical.

For Glazing a turkey breast. Follow above instructions but sprinkle on the turkey breast as you quickly wave the torch over it. This method works best because there is no fat layer on the outside of the turkey so the mixture has nothing to stick to until it’s heated. NOTE: It also results in the quick dissipation of the glaze. (it turns into more of a sauce at the bottom of the container) It generally only lasts 24 hours so do not do this too far ahead of time.
